old fashioned sour cream doughnuts
Okay, I kept my word. I made doughnuts! Although, I still feel like I probably should've bought a deep fry thermometer... maybe one day. Does hot oil freak me out? Yes. Is it hard to maintain the temperature? Yes. Does that affect the doughnut quality? Yes. But I'm learning. This time around, we used our Staub cast iron pot instead of our mini deep fryer (it's dirty and we haven't cleaned it yet). I bought Lara Ferroni's book, Doughnuts, a couple of months ago, and this is the first recipe we tried. The reason we picked the Old Fashioned Sour Cream Doughnuts is because we had all the ingredients... If you love doughnuts and want to make them yourself, try out some of Lara's doughnut recipes on her blog, she's got a few of them up there. And when you're confident, go for the book!
