fab.com round-up

Have you been to Fab.com recently?  I've mentioned Fab on this site before, and I decided to do a small round-up of some of my favorite things they are selling on sale this week.  I haven't bought anything from the site yet, but I've been eyeing these wood rolling pins since last time they were up on Fab.  If you're interested in looking at their weekly sales, check it out!  Anyways, here are 4 of my favorite sellers this week.

I really love this promo done by seattle native, Christian Sorensen Hansen for XXX typography magazine.  Just having made a cup of coffee this morning, this video really starts off the day nicely. Happy Sunday, everyone.

new photography packaging!

Yes! It's been a long time coming. I've been experimenting with packaging for my wedding photography for a while now, but with school and everything I was never able to sit down and just work on what I had in mind. Then, my awesome, totally talented, beautiful beautiful sister designed my logo.  If you ever want custom design, seriously hire her, she's currently working on an illustration for a tattoo for someone! That could be you! (or you know, wedding invitations, whatever).  I couldn't just have the pretty logo she designed for me standing all alone in the midst of my random packaging. So this week, I whipped out my water color set and exacto knives and got to it.  Considering I don't watercolor, ever, I'm pretty happy with how the packaging turned out.  In case you're interested:

For my photography packaging I use:

Moo double-sided business cards
Stumptown printing recycled dvd cases
Recycled paper bubble mailer

I try to limit the amount of materials I use for packaging, mainly so that I am not contributing more to the amount of material that is out there in the world. As you can see, all packages are hand-painted, packaged, and mailed by me.  And, because we live in the Great White North, each package will now include a lovely Canadian token... yes you should be excited.

 The foster kitten, Flannery, got a little mischievous while I was taking photos of my packaging. If there are any paw prints on your dvd cases - well, now you know why.

the folio society and too many birthday wishes

I am terribly "wish-list obsessed" when it comes to birthdays, Christmas gifts, anything where I may get a present.  I usually find one gift I absolutely have to have, but then, find dozens of other gifts I "have to have" as well.... it's awful... This year, I knew I had to have the iPad 2, and that is still #1 on my list, but after going through The Folio Society's catalog, I can't help but want a membership for their beautiful books as well.  If you haven't seen them, look!  If you aren't a member, but love to read, you should join. Here are just some of the books I am wanting to buy for myself!

smart design mart 2010

I discovered Smart Design Mart randomly while searching the internet for "things to do in Montreal."  What's more incredible is that this mart was taking place the EXACT weekend I needed to get all of my Christmas presents wrapped, packed, and shipped to California.  It was quite the Christmas miracle, especially since there were some family members and friends I was still puzzled on what to get them.  Needless to say, after spending an hour or two at this mart, my Christmas shopping was done.  I could have even gotten some shopping done for myself, but I was very, very disciplined, too much so.
